Dermaplaning…What’s all the fuzz about?

Dermaplaning…What’s all the fuzz about?

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that uses a scalpel to gently scrape the top layer of skin to remove dead skin cells and vellus hairs, also known as peach fuzz. The removal of these dead skin cells and hairs allows for better absorption of makeup and skin care products and results in an overall smoother and brighter complexion. Dermaplaning is also great to have performed prior to laser and light therapies. The end result enhances the ability for lasers and lights to penetrate to target areas instead of getting trapped in the hairs on the skin’s surface.

Dermaplaning is great for anyone and everyone. However, if you experience acne, it is best to wait until breakouts are resolved to receive this treatment. This procedure is quick and easy. From start to finish, you can expect the session to last about 15 to 20 minutes. There is zero pain and zero downtime associated with dermaplaning. It is actually a very relaxing procedure. Post-procedure, it is important to apply moisturizer and sunscreen. A sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater is recommended, as the skin is more sensitive to the sun. This is due to the face that the protective hair layer has been removed. Re-treatment can occur every three weeks, as dermaplaning removes 21 days of dead skin cells. It is best to wait the full 21 days to allow for the skin to rejuvenate prior to being retreated.

I have received dermaplaning and I absolutely LOVE it! The procedure is very relaxing and my skin looks and feels great after. My skin has never looked brighter and my makeup has never looked as good (on the occasion when I do wear it). The first time I had received dermaplaning, I was constantly touching my face because it felt so soft. Consequently, I did experience some breakouts post procedure because of this. Lesson learned..hands off! I cannot believe it has taken me this long to discover the magic of dermaplaning, but it is definitely something I will continue to do now and forever!
