production & tissue repair (1cc IV) - Vit B12: energy, weight loss (1cc IV or IM)
- Vit D: immune health, bone health, protect against cancer (1 amp)
- Multi Vit+anti nausea medication: hangover recovery (multi-dose vials) (2cc Ondansetron or 0.5-1cc Promethazine)
Prior to the procedure:
- Obtain medical history to assess for heart failure, blood clotting disorders, use of blood thinners, and current vitamin intake
IV hydration procedure:
- Use aseptic technique & precautions
- Prepare IV fluids, spike fluid bag & prime IV tubing
- Use a tourniquet to assess the patient for a suitable vein for IV insertion
- Clean desired IV insertion site with alcohol prep
- Insert the IV catheter bevel up, once a flash of blood is seen, occlude the vein above the insertion site with the opposite hand while simultaneously retracting the IV needle
- Attach syringe if blood draw is needed/obtain blood specimen or attach primed IV fluid
- Secure IV catheter in place with Tegaderm & tape
- Open the roller clamp on the IV fluid & let flow freely
- Inject vitamins in the medication port of the IV fluid bag if desired
