WHAT IS TOP SURGERY?
Top surgery is a gender affirming surgery that alters characteristics of the chest, allowing for a more masculine appearance. Through unique surgical techniques, typically all of the breast tissue will be removed from both breasts (complete mastectomy).
While the procedure is different for everyone, it’s also important to consider nipple resizing or repositioning.

Before surgery, patients are required to complete a series of medical and psychological evaluations to ensure that top surgery is a safe and appropriate course of treatment.
Most patients who are cleared for top surgery have experienced gender dysphoria for years: a mental condition that causes feelings of distress over not aligning with one’s sex assigned at birth. Some experience this in early childhood, while others are diagnosed later after puberty.
During evaluation for top surgery, a written letter from a behavioral health specialist is necessary to ensure the your physical and emotional readiness for surgery.
