At our office in Philadelphia, we often get asked about Kybella and liposuction for the neck. So, which is right for you? Here’s a breakdown of each treatment to help you make an informed decision.
NECK LIPOSUCTION VS KYBELLA
Liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery that removes fat from specific areas of the body, such as the neck, through a small incision. This type of procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia, which means you will be asleep during the surgery. The recovery time for liposuction is typically one to two weeks.
Kybella is an injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin and jawline. This type of procedure is minimally invasive and does not require anesthesia. The number of treatments required depends on the amount of fat cells present and your goals for treatment. Kybella treatments are typically administered every four to six weeks. Kybella typically works well with 1 treatment but 3 treatments will get you exactly where you want to be.
SWELLING
With neck liposuction the swelling mostly resolved in 10 days (80%) but like any liposuction needs 3-6 months for final results to set in.
With Kybella, you get swelling that resolves almost completely in 2 weeks. Then the results improve and improve over the next two weeks and in some patients over the following month. So swollen for weeks 1&2. Then improve 80% week 3&4. Then the last 20% of results in week 5,6,7&8.
WHAT IS THE BEST FIT FOR YOU?
Both procedures can provide excellent results for submental fat under the chin and will tighten skin a tiny amount but not enough if your skin is already loose. This will increase skin laxity after the fat is removed or dissolved. We combine laser skin tightening treatments to solve this. Alternatively we can do a neck lift in combination with liposuction.
